cycleplan is delighted to announce that cycling Olympic medallist Lizzie Armitstead has inked a long-term agreement to become a cycleplan ambassador!
One of the most recognisable faces in professional cycling, Armitstead has joined cycleplan to help raise public awareness of why specialist cycling insurance is needed, from protecting your public liability through to helping you quickly get back in the saddle should you be a victim of theft.
Becoming a British star
Armitstead, 26, hails from Otley in West Yorkshire, where she got her first taste for cycling as a young girl and hasn’t looked back since. It wasn’t until 2009 however that she decided to fully focus her career upon road riding, a decision which has handsomely paid off given the extensive haul of accolades that have since come her way:
Key achievements and records:
- 2015, 2013 & 2011 National Road Race Champion
- 2014 Commonwealth Games Gold Medallist Road Race
- 2014 UCI Women’s Road World Cup Champion
- 2012 Olympic Silver Medallist
- 2010 Commonwealth Games Silver Medallist Road Race
- 2009 World Championships Gold Medallist Team Pursuit
Working with cycleplan
Now part of the elite Boels Dolmans Cycling Team, Armitstead’s 2015 has been a topsy-turvy affair – crashing spectacularly but fortunately without injury in the Women’s Tour before making a rapid recovery to win the British National Road Championships.
Still focussed on more success in 2015 but with a firm eye on the Olympics next year in Rio, Armitstead is now considered the British female face of success in world cycling, with her face set to become even more widespread as part of her working relationship with cycleplan.
Initially being part of a wide reaching PR and social campaign, Armitstead will also feature in cycleplan’s first ever filmed advert that will be made available on TV and the web. Keep checking back on the blog to see not just the advert but also the behind scenes story from the filming day.
In her own words
Commenting on the partnership, Armitstead said: “Cycling is at its most popular for 24 years and I want to see this number rise and more people get into cycling. People rightly worry about having their bike stolen and safety on the roads and that’s why cycling insurance makes sense. I’m training on roads day in, day out and have had my fair share of scrapes and near misses, but having specialist insurance gives you the peace of mind that if something was to happen, you’re protected. Crucially, insurance helps you to quickly get back on the saddle and keep doing the sport we all love.”

She will also be posting monthly blogs here on the cycleplan blog, so be sure to check back to hear back directly from the Otley star.
